2 quick and easy tiling questions

Hi Guys

1 - i have a bath with an overhead shower, im tiling the walls with travertine tiles, will i need to use a tanking kit ? or will a couple coats of pva do it ??

2 - i have a hidden cistern that is plasterboarded over, problem is were the cistern resides there is no support for the plasterboard, again large format travertine tiles are being used, is this ok ? or should a use some ply wood for extra strength ??

tanking yes, best idea is to put supports in for the plaster board or use ply
