is this possible?

Boiler is an Ideal Mini C29 installed roughly 2001 (few years before I bought the house)

Currently have a Mira Atom ERD running off this, and would like to fit another in a new upstairs toilet.

Any advice appreciated

as said if they are not both running at the same time you wont have any problems

Thanks

If they were both running, would it just mean the pressure in each would be reduced?

Would a single normal small head shower perform better or perhaps just get an electric?

There are a lot of unique onsite depends come into the situation.During dual shower use, water pressure will fluctuate to an extent that the (correctly calibrated thermostatic) shower mixers may sense a safety fault and cut the hot water flow during fault conditions.

So much depends on the property's incoming water mains flow & pressure. they vary and are not guaranteed.

Hmm making me think an electric might be better option which is a shame.

It will day to day be our main shower but almost seems pointless adding a second shower to the house if only one can be used at a time

An electric shower may not be a suitable option. You need check the pressure and flow rate of your incoming supply. In a direct combi system, all outlets share the same mains supply. What happens to your current shower if a toilet is flushed elsewhere in the property? If there is a noticeable drop in performance then the same is likely to happen when both showers are going. Having said that, we run two showers off a combi and even when we had three teenagers in the house, with a bit of consideration, it was very rare to have both in use at the same time. I wouldn't have electric as your main shower as performance will be poor compared to the one off the combi. One possible benefit of going electric for a second shower could be that you have a back up hot water source if/when the combi breaks down.

Yup, it can be done, how acceptable they'll both be is another question. The usual agreed standard is that a combi will only really satisfy one HW outlet at a time.

The cold water pressure and HW ouput of your boiler (your C28 is only about 11L/Min @ 35Deg) are key. With some clever tweaking at the shower end - with flow limiters and water saving shower heads etc - then an acceptable balance can be found but it does need careful setting up, managed it a couple of times with bigger boilers and a 3bar, high flow mains.
