Hi, my first post! I'm a fairly competent DIYer, particularly in the plumbing area. Electrics I treat with a great deal of respect! I'm trying to replace a normal 2 way light switch with a 2 way dimmer and am a bit stuck. The rear of the 2 way normal switch has 4 terminals - L1, L2, L3, L4. L2 is unused. L1 has one wire going into it, L3 & L4, each have two wires.
The rear of the new 2 way dimmer has three terminals - L1, L2 and a little arrow with a wavy line going through it! How do I wire the new dimmer please?!

Sounds like the curent switch you have is an intermediate switch linked for 2 way use.

What colour wires go to each terminal on the existing switch?

Is there currently a small link wire between two of the terminals? If so which two?

Or even better you could take a photo of the existing switch and connections, and post it on here

Hi, into the rear of the standard light switch come one 3 core wire and one 2 core wire.
The 3 core (red, blue, yellow) is wired as follows: red to L1, blue to L3, yellow to L4.
The 2 core (red, black) is wired as follows: red to L4, black to L3.
Hope that's sufficient information and thanks for your help - Chris
