Hi All,

Quick question about 2-way dimmers: Can I have a dimmer on both switches for a 2 way lighting circuit or do I need to have a normal switch at one end ?

Thanks,

P.J.

you have to have a 'normal' 2 way switch at one end. The problem with this is that when you switch on at the non-dimmer switch end, the light will illuminate at the dimmers setting

as stated with 2 way dimmers you can only have a dimmer at one end

2 way dimmers are basically a 2 way switch (usually push style) with a dimmer in series with the com terminal

using 2 of them means you end up with 2 dimmers in series which just doesn't work with phase cutters (you tend to end up with flashing lights if you try)

if you wan't dimming from multiple locations you need master slave dimmers. however it should be remembered that not all two way switching layouts can support theese.

Varilight are considered one of the best dimmers around (the ones you linked to). They will control electronic transformers, but NOT bulky wirewound transformers. Check which type you have.

Varilight dimmers can be wired as master and slave, but you need to check the wiring is compatible first - there are many ways to wire 2-way switches, some aren't compatible with varilight's connection system.
