2 Way Lighting - via junction box

instead of just drawings, post a picture of what you have actually done.. then we can tell you what wires are not to your drawing and why it's not working..

photo's needed.. front and back of hall switch, front and back of landing switch, inside of junction box, connection at light..

I think from my quick butcher's at your diags, you need to alter your commons connections.

You need a live feed at one common & a switch wire at the other, with strappers in-between...

The live incoming wire (second terminal from left connects to COM on the top switch ONLY. Not L1 or the bottom switch at all

Both L1s connect to a separate terminal in the JB.

Both L2s connect to another separate terminal in the JB.

THe COMM from the bottom switch connects to an additional (not shown and SIXTH) terminal in the JB and is also connected to the live feed to the Lights (only 2 wires on this terminal - one in and one out) THe live feed should not be conneted to your fourth terminal.

The principle with 2 way/intermediates when wiing with JBs is that the first switch in the row has a feed in (Top one in this case) the only switch terminals you connect to the other switches are L1 and L2 (oddly NOT the COM) and the comm on the last switch provides the feed out to the lights.

You will have six connections in the JB
1. Neutral
2. Live feed in and out to first switch Com
3. Linked L1s
4. Linked L2s
5. Earths
6. Switched live out from second switch com to lights

That should work.

Hi Guys and Gals,

Thank you all for your help on this one.
I have now solved the problem. Amazing how much stress a loose connection in a junction box can cause! :?

Here is the final diagram which works just perfectly. :)
