Hi
Any help with the following much appreciated. I need to finish installing two switches which my electrician was unable to complete due to ongoing works. Unfortunately can't get hold of him to finish the job:

Ground floor: 4 gang switch fully wired
1st gang operates light on middle floor

Com- grey
L1- brown
L2- black

Middle floor: not wired

3 x 3 core cables labelled:
Cable 1 - "two way middle" (I've identified this Cable as the one connected to the ground floor switch)

Cable 2 - "two way middle"
Cable 3 - "two way top"

2nd floor: switch partially wired
1st switch operates room light
2nd switch operates 2nd floor hallway light
3rd switch operates middle floor light

2 x 3 core cables labelled:
Cable 1: "2 way top"
Cable 2: " 2 way middle"

any help with how to wire the 2 way cables on middle floor and 2nd floor please

Tia

If he hasn’t completed his work how can he issue you with a certificate?

Hope you haven’t paid all his bills

He was a nice guy tbh
Middle floor studwork was in progress and that's why he couldn't complete

Then he is obliged to come back , the incomplete stud work is a feeble excuse

How do you expect him to provide a cert?

Pictures of all locations may help. In reality you shouldn't be making any changes to what your electrician has done without his approval and direction.

Other than a diagram of the way most two way systems work,
two-way-plus-inter.jpg
here showing three switches 2 x 2 way and centre intermediate can't really help much more. The standard colours for cables are brown for all, which does not help, so most electricians will use brown, black, and grey, but there is no standard as to what colour is used for what.

As it stands I don't know even the plan, some times we don't use two way as such, but timed switches, and with modern wifi switches there are two wire systems with master and slave set up. And that depends on the make of switch how set up.

Perhaps, but it could be that there was no wall to which to attach (at all, or safely at the time) the middle floor switch
Ah... reading more the situation maybe slightly different to my previous comment, if the wall were not in place it would have been difficult/impossible to complete that part. It may be that the electrician completed and certified the work to that point by agreement.

I/We can make some guesses as to what you have and require, but unless the cables 1 & 2 at the middle floor are joined, what you describe is not making full sense.
Pictures of each location including wiring of switches should allow us to to come up with a solution for you.
