drivers sidelights keep blowing a fuse, i replaced 2 defective rear number plate lamps and changed the 7.5 amp fuse in the engine bay and they worked for about an hour but the fuse blew again
anyone know of any areas to check for wiring faults etc?

Change all the bulbs on that circuit first. Can sometimes get an iffy one which ballses things up.
While the bulbs are out, check the bulb holders and wiring to them.

Most cars run a 10 or 15 amp side/tail circuit. If ^neo^ s suggestion doesn't work try upping it to a 10a fuse but no more. It will then take a couple of milliseconds longer to blow.
Check for water ingress at the number plate lamp also.

Cheers

Jim

I don`t advise this at all, but just thought i`d tell you all what i saw a guy do once, car kept blowing fuses and he couldn`t find the fault, so he opened all the doors got a few people on each door one in the boot and himself in the engine bay whilst he ran a live straight from the battery to the fuse holder, and exclaimed, when you see smoke let me know, did find that a screw holding the sill trim on had knicked the wire running from the rear to the front, but had to cut out and replace the whole wire because it was melted and the guy that owned the car complained of a burning smell in his car........just for laughs, don`t try this at home....

an astra i bought years ago had an unfused live feed ran from the battery to the interior clock, it wrapped itself around the steering column inside the car and eventually shorted. There was no fuse fitted to it and the first i knew of a problem was a glowing near my feet and some smoke from under the bonnet
I opened the bonnet to be greeted by a glowing cable along its entire length, i had to grab it with my shirt and rip it off the battery terminal.
It suprisingly didnt do much damage to the rest of the loom

no, ive got a feeling its rear numberplate related as both lamps had blown and there was a fair amount of moisture present when i changed them

this may sound weird but bear with me...
does it have a normal mechanical handbrake lever? (not electric park brake)??
just i had one about a year ago the wiring to the traction control disable switch in the centre console was trapped in the handbrake mechanism inside the centre console. there was no switch fitted by the way.
exactly the same symptoms as you getting. nightmare to find. shares the fuse with the side lamps.

hope this makes sense. was a weird one and took a couple of hours to find.

hate renault wiring, its a nightmare, but makes me a pretty penny!
