got a Glow worm spacersaver RF - its now 23 yrs old and needs a new fan (the second one in 7 years) everything else seems ok with the boiler and we had it serviced last year with no issues. I like the idea of keeping hold of something thats proven etc but also feel that at 23yrs old maybe its time is nearly up...

In light of the above, we can get a new Valiant condensing boiler supplied and fitted for £1800 inc flushing, upstairs stats and some wiring re route for the pump.

is it false economy to keep the old one?

£200 to repair the fan or whatever the cost is a lot less than £1800.

How much life have I got in this old boiler would you think?

Its always cheaper to repair!

The decision to replace should depend largely on your gas bill. A modern boiler might save about 20% on your gas bill.

A fan life of 12 years sounds very reasonable to me for something working every day for several hours and operating in a high temperature environment!

You may well be lucky to get 12 years from a new boiler

Puts the 200 for a new fan in perspective.
