Hi sparkies/or electricians to the fussy ones :eek: :D

Has anyone heard of a box which is situated next to the fuse board which reduces the 240voltage in the house down to 220 voltage. In turn hopefully saving 15-20% in bills. I seen one on DIY SOS but cant find them on the internet, anyone heard of them and if they work plus where i can purchase them. Thanks Tim

Huge waste of money, no possible way it could save anything.

One example being these people: http://www.vphase.co.uk/

Their website is full of blatant mistruths. For example:
Results for consumer electronics vary widely, examples are given below:

* DAB radio = 5% energy saving
* DECT cordless phone base station = 30% energy saving
* ADSL modem and wireless router = 5% energy saving
* Personal Computer = 4% energy saving
* Hi-Fi = 13% energy saving

A PC or a router for example would be less efficient at the lower voltage, not more.

What comes to my mind is.....

If you reduce the power input to the majority of domestic appliances by, say, 15%, all that happens is they take 15% longer to carry out their task.

For example, boiling a kettle will still take the same total amount of energy, whether it's delivered as 1.5KW for 1.8 minutes or 1.8KW for 1.5 minutes.
