Hi,

I have the same problem that others have had in this forum, the diverter valve seems to be dodgy as I only getting piping hot water when the heating is on and when the heating is off and I run the hot tap the rads begin to warm up. I've had a quote from a plumber - £470 which seems extortionate to me?

Can I change / service this bit myself? And if so can anyone direct me on how to do this please, do I need to drain the system etc how would I go about that? Thank you very much.

Best Regards,

Ralph.

Call worcester in. They do a fixed price repair for £185 I believe, or it was 2 months ago

Thanks for that Dave, I'm in Norwich are Worcester a national company? do you happen to have a number?

Best Regards,

Ralph.

Worcester are the boiler manufacturer's!

Try 0870 5266241.

Who quoted you this extrortionate figure. Don't post on here but use my e-mail link in my profile. I'd be interested to know if it is one of our local cowboys

Hi Dave,

It's an Alpha 240E - I presumed the manufacturer was Alpha?

I was told the part was £270 + vat and a labour charge of £120 + vat to fit

I will email you the comapny name if your interested not that I like to tattle tail but equally I don't like people being ripped off.

Regards,

Ralph.

For some reason I assumed it was a Worcester 240. Forget that 'phone number

I have had a few after a stressful day with customer who waits till you install rads etc then changes their mind where they want them to go :x

the divvy valve on these are the same as the baxi equavalent, the baxi product is cheaper than the alpha part, alpha's have always been expensive on spare parts, the valve can also be rebuilt, it's up to you if you want an engineer to replace or repair.

I truly beleive in a fair days work for a fair days pay but even i would call that a pi55 take, get some other company in and steer well clear of the ones that gave you that price

Parts center price for the part is £341.10 inc VAT (retail)

so maybe the lads are not that far out?

Jees corgi thats expensive or does it include the diaphragm unit on the front as well?

main body unit is only £220 + VAT retail when I now checked

Thats the price That Parts Arena gave me

:)

Just saying that maybe these boys are not passing on their hard won discount on to the OP

goddam their eyes

:)

I think they must have quoted you the whole caboodle!

I always charge out spares at retail from Parts Center, but I am more reasonable on my labour costs.

At the end of the day its the end cost that counts.

£600 to replace your DV but I'll give you £200 trade in on your old one

Some people fall for it, look how much BG do it

Well yes I did quote the whole thing

thought thats what the other lads did

:)

1 x diverter rebuild kit
1 x DHW diaphragm kit
1 x auto air vent
1 x drain off valve
2 x bypass O rings
1 x bypass valve O ring on back of diverter (not in kit)

Total parts - £60 - £80 trade

Labour - re-con diverter, re-charge expansion vessel, safety checks etc -normally a half day rate

Unless it goes like today on a Performa - some knob at the factory had mullered the olive on the bypass diff. tube so it wouldn't re-seal (new bypass pipe required) :x
