I have been asked to provide some electrical cable to run from a clubhouse to a marquee in a field adjacent. The marquee will be around 750' away and will need to supply a disco and lighting etc.

Can I do this on 'normal' 13amp extension leads, or do I need 16amp or higher, also what type of cabling do I require 6mm etc etc etc.

May just get a generator in !

Thank you

Are you joking ?

With an event that's charged or ticketed you will need to get either a cert for the work or very local power (generator). Consider the liability insurance required for a public event.

250m with volt drop due to distance and say a demand on the lighting, effects machines and PA / amp is likely to be 20a +++

In simple terms there isn't a DIY cable that will allow you to run power across fields safely.

Look at a genie.

You'd be looking at 16mm conductors for that sort of run just to get a single fully loaded 13A socket. 16mmsq 3-core H07 flex is about £5/metre, so you're looking at £1250 alone in cable. You can double that, as you'd probably want at least 6kW for running the disco, lights, catering, bar, etc. As per above, a generator is the only sensible solution.

Thanks, I thought as much :p

I have been told that the power in the marquee will be
a tea urn
a chocolate fountain
a complete disco of 2000w sound
lighting for the marquee

What size genny would you advise please

A 10kVA will easily cover all that with some to spare. Better to err on the side of caution. If you hire from an events company then they will probably also provide a set up suitable distribution.

However, you would be better going to your chosen hire specialist armed with the above information, and they will specify and supply whatever they feel best meets your needs.
