I’ve got one of these and need to put a coupler in to join these two ends of pipes ( currently blocked off). However, the pipe is too rigid to be able to insert both ends fully into the coupler. One end keeps leaking. Can someone please help.

Any combination of

check the pipe ends for distortion, recut using pipe cutters if required

a smear of silicone grease on inserts (you did remember these) and pipe ends

more force to achieve full insertion (Matron!)

should suffice.

I tried all of that - except the silicone grease and have struggled.

Should I use a couple of elbows to give me some play?

Thanks for your help.

Can't answer that without being there: these fittings however are designed for rough-handed gentlemen in muddy trenches to reliably achieve first-time success.

Just can’t see how I stretch one end of the mdpe pipe into the end of the coupler. I have released quite a bit of the pipe by taking up the soil but still very difficult.

Are there any issues with using two elbows to create some slack?

If you have to use elbows then so be it.
If you wanted a straight run then that has to be done when running the pipe.

Ah, I was beginning to think the same. I can see how you can use these mdpe fittings very easily when laying the pipe afresh and one section of pipe is completely free to push in. Don’t see how they work in a repair situation. The 25mm pipe feels too inflexible to stretch and push in.
I couldn’t see a slip coupler in MDPE?

I will try the two elbow method later.

I'd have to be there to know if a coupler could work. You can try warming up the mdpe with some hot water so that it bends easier. You can also stick pegs behind it to help force into the radius bend you want and leave them there until you have back filled so the strain on the joint is taken up by the soil/pea shingle.
