Hi there. Following some building works and a total renovation, we've ended up getting the whole house rewired. So, it needs to be tested and certified, which the electrician on the job is to do.

Thing is he keeps putting off the 2nd fix until the whole house is done and we are only just getting there with one room left to plaster. Says it can't be done until it's all done. Why is that? Isn't it possible to do one circuit at a time as they become ready? As a result of this we have very little light and power throughout the whole house and only a couple of working weeks before Xmas.....

Many thanks for any advice.

Why would he want to keep coming backwards & forwards to test each circuit, would you want to pay his expenses every time he came out, plus the system as a whole would have to be tested on his final visit which again is waisting his time & your money.

Well the money side of things is up to me isn't it, I wanted to make sure there wasn't a technical reason why it couldn't be done bit by bit.
Many thanks

If the guy wants to do it all in a final visit then he should have left a builders supply for lead lamps, trannies and power tools for the interim needs on site.

Provided you are happy that the CU area is clean, dust free and not liable to site contamination there's no reason why he couldn't return and do a part install activating some of the circuits- again on the understanding that the sockets, switches and like will not suffer contamination from painters, plasterers, dust, dirt etc..

It's not JUST about visit efficiency, cost of visits- it's about you accepting that if 3rd party trades ruin his work you will not squeeze him and that further charges will be accepted.
