Is it possible to add a new cable to a 2nd hand cooker? The cooker in question has had its 'cable cut off' whatever that means and i was wondering how easy/safe/expensive it is to have a new cable fitted by an electrician? I dont know anything about electrics but the cooker is a good one and so wondered if it is relatively simple to do or i am buying a nightmare?
Help!

?Usually no big deal fora spark, if all is well in your house then expect to pay perhaps a call out fee and a few quid for the cable, personally things like that i absorb into the call out fee if it is an insignificant amount or i have some left on the end of a reel which is no good for anything else.

Not a nightmare, just need suitable sized cable for the output of the appliance and it can be replaced. You should be able to remove the back plate of the cooker and this will show the terminal connection of the existing cable, if the cooker is a few years old core colours could be red(line/Live), black(neutral), green/yellow(EARTH).
The new cable core colours are likely to be;
Brown (Line/live) swap with red.
Blue (neutral) swap with black.
Green/Yellow straight swap.

anywhere from £40 up to around £120 is the norm round here. we charge £65 to install a cooker or £75 if we have to supply parts this is new or secondhand as the work involved is basically the same.
