I'm hoping you clever lot know if there is an adaptor that will sit inside the old cast stack pipe after I cut it off so I can connect it to the new plastic soil pipe. I've used the rubber jobs in the past, but they don't like being squeezed in over the smaller diameter cast pipe.

I have used mcalpine DC 1 BL ,to connect to 4 inch cast iron . are you sure yours is 3 1/2 inch ? They may do a conversion coupler for that size ,but I have only come across 4 inch cast myself.
3 1/2” cast iron LCC was used in abundance.

One of these is exactly what you need. Just make sure you put plenty of lube on the rubber fins and inside the cast iron pipe (might want to get some latex gloves).
