Gas open system with thermostatic valves. First floor has three cold rads but two others are hot. All hot on ground floor. Valves do not seem to be stuck. Inlet pipes to all three rads cold. All rads bled, no air. Have tried closing down all except one rad to force through any blockage and balancing all other rads but no luck. Any ideas?

Has your system got water in it or as I suspect air?
Check the small tank in your loft to make sure there is water in it. Could be that the ballvalve is stuck in the 'up' position.
What happens when you bleed the upstairs rads with the system turned off?

have u thermostats on the cold rads.when were they last hot.did u get water when u tried to bleed them.

Tank in loft is full. Valves fitted to cold rads, water comes out when bled even after bleeding for a few minutes, no air at all. New house purchase, house has been empty over summer so not sure when rads were last hot. The two hot rads on the first floor were hot at the bottom, cold at the top but are now hot after being bled - lots of air. Thanks for the interest, any further advice you can give would be appreciated.

U need to remove the thermostat head & check to see if there is any movement in the pin in the top of the valve . details on top of page.

Removed thermostat heads, no movement in pins. Freed them off and all three rads are now hot.
Thanks very much, bab, you're a star!
