Brown Black Grey 3 core SWA.

Whats the norm for tagging the Black and Grey when used for single phase.

sleeve the grey as blue and use as neutral and the black as green/yel and use as earth and don't let plugwash try and tell you any differently

All three are phase condutors therefore black and grey should both be sleeved with brrown.

Cheers Adam, I take it you and pugwash have been there before

luminare. Im using it as single phase i.e. 2 core and earth so having 3 browns isnt a good idea. I think you must be thinking of switch wire.

 Sorry to laugh!!

(I can't see that working as an aide memoire, or have I missed something?)

afaict there is no official guidence from the IEE.

Most sparkies have gone for the convention introduced by the NICEIC which makes sense from some points of view (makes joining cables and repurposing cables with burried joints in simpler) but is more likely to be confusing to the diyer and therefore IMO a mistake for domestic installations.

ultimately whichever you choose to do make sure you sleeve it appropriately
