3 phase

that ratings plate is gobbledygook to me, but someone else will be along shortly to translate. They dont make them easy to read where 3 phase motors are concerned. :(

Best bet (and cheapest) would be to take it back and get one that can run in single phase.

But it may be possible to convert this one. It may void its warranty though.

The plate says 2 pole and earth which is single phase
16 is a 16 amp blue commando plug and 6h is the position of the earth pin in that plug.

I tried to use it with an extension , it would not work. Will it not work with an extension

so to summarise..

you don't have 3 phase there, those are single phase boards and a single phase meter.
your table saw is single phase
your soon to be arriving thicknesser/planer is 3 phase.
....
...
..
.
you need to get a different T/P...

However larger motors as 400 volt delta and 695 volt star being arranged that way to allow star / delta starting

Motors with Delta or Star straps on the terminal block cannot be connected to a star/delta starter.
The straps must be removed.

So the plate was for something different :?

Although, no photo of the actull service head as requested ;-)

We need a photo of the actual service head fuses before the meter. There is still a small chance the service could be altered to three phase.

A motor of that configuration could not be connected for star/delta starting !

yes they can thats the whole point. you start them connected in a star configuration then switch over to delta
or leave them connected "delta" and use a frequency converter to soft start them

If you have any experience of this then you will know that a motor designed to operate at 400 volts in delta can be started in star which gives approx 58% voltage across the windings but also means approx 58% of the maximum torque as well.
If you have a motor designed to run at 695 volts star then unless it is virtually running free it will not start at approx 33% (230v) of it's rated voltage when started in star. The motor will probably stall and the overload will operate if correctly set.
Believe me, I have experienced it !

I have purchased a Metabo Planer Thicknesser.

it says operate on a power source matching 5 wire three phase outlets with neutral lead.

I phoned Metabo. They run on 240v home power.
So why are you looking at installation instructions for a machine which you haven't bought?

the workshop will not be part of the house.
That's irrelevant.

Where does it (will it) get its power?

Where does the house get its power?

Why do you have 2 CUs? Is one for the house and one for an outbuilding which you plan to turn into a workshop?
