I had a 3 port valve replaced about 6-9 months ago as it had packed in, the new one seems to have done the same, here's the issue.

1. Hot water is working fine
2. Central heating isn't coming on at all.
3. I was told it might be the thermostat so I replaced that, when I turn it to click it on the boiler doesn't respond but the 3 port valve starts ticking loudly.
4. I can push the lever on the 3 port valve (making it again tick loudly), turn on the hot water and the heating works with that but doesn't turn off (keeps getting hot until I turn it off).

Any ideas from anyone? The usual bloke who does my heating has had a death in the family so I don't want to nag him.

Boiler is a Baxi Solo P2F - seems to be fine
3 port valve is a flowmasta like this one https://www.screwfix.com/p/flomasta-27901sx-3-port-motorised-valve-22mm/7091g

I'm thinking that the valve sounds knackered but it should have a longer life than 6-9 months!

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Mike

Did you just have the 3 port valve (brass body) replaced or did you have the actuator replaced aswell? Sounds like a fault with that

It was the whole thing, I bought that one off the link from screwfix that I put on earlier. Time to buy a new valve? They should refund the old one I imagine as it's not old. Are flowmasta a bit crap?

You could try a synchron motor first as is cheaper than a whole valve, removing the actuator does the spindle move freely turning it by hand

Thanks I'll have a look over the weekend and take it apart. Where can I pick up a synchron motor if it is that that's up?
Thanks for the replies

Brilliant, thanks. I'm away for the weekend or I'd go check it now. I'll take it apart on Sunday afternoon and have a proper look at it.

So I've swapped out the 3 port valve thinking that would make everything better - when I turn on the water or the heating it flicks over to the right setting from W to H do that's all fine .The pump is working as I can hear it and I've drained it to get the air out of the system as best I can. Issue 1 - only some of the radiators are hot & if I bleed the cold ones they are full of water not air. This seems to be moving so one that was hot at first is now cold and vice versa. Issue 2 - the thermostat on the wall doesn't seem to click the heating on and off & the boiler seems to turn itself on and off when it feels like.
It's resolved the problem of the heating controller not actually turning on the heating though!

Sounds like I need to get a plumber or an electrician in?

Thanks!

I've used a Flomasta pump, which seems O.K., but I fitted a Flomasta programmer that lost its display, as did the replacement. I decide not to use more flomasta electrical gear.

I've replaced it with a Drayton one. Seems to have settled down, only thing is the pump seems to keep running after the boiler has switched itself off. I'll leave it overnight and see if it goes off.
