I have 2 lights on the upstairs landing which are controlled by 1 switch downstairs & 2 switches upstairs. I have tried to move one switch (the middle one) and now cannot get all three switches to work. By removing the middle switch and joining the wires, the other 2 switches work - the middle switch has 2 x L1, 2 x L2 and no Com (and No, I didn't think to write down the layout!). Any advice gratefully received!!

Always look in the "for reference" post for wiring diagrams, but just this once....

I don't know where the original picture came from but, just as a matter of interest, why did they use red for COM instead of the more usual yellow? I know it works just the same but surely it would have been much better to use red for permanent live.

i suspect the code you use for it just depends on who taught you where and when

there is no real standard.
