45a dp ceiling swith

i just bought a 45a dp ceiling switch and installed as previous one removed - the problem being although the switch works correctly the small neon light doesnt go out like the last one - so i had a word with the electrician at my work he told me to turn the switch around and the circuit is currently connected that way when the pull cord is yanked that will connect the light on - i have tried this tonight and still the same result

could it be the type of switch i have that the small neon light remains on no matter what - either way the switch works whatwever way it is wired - ive made sure the live (red ) is going to the correct side as is neutral (black ) and ive earthed it on both the connections

Have you made sure the supply from the CU goes into supply and the cables to the equipment go into the load terminals?

It not just a case of getting live & neutral the right way round. It sounds like you have load & supply the wrong way round - this would cause the neon to stay on as you describe. Of course the neon could be wired incorrectly but i'd guess your load/supply are back to front.

It doesnt make a lot of difference really.

On my shower switch, it was wired as you have done for about 6 years. It was done in 10mm so I couldnt be bothered faffing with it.

As it is now, the shower cables go thorugh a contactor so the shower switch only has live and switched live from the control and fan circuit, the light no longer works due to no neutral.

yip seem to have done the trick swapped the supply and load around and the switch now works although i made a mess in between ! wired incorrectly only for the shower to trip ! but thanks for your advice one last question is there a easy wat to find which cable is supply and which one load ? or is it trace it thorough the loft back to the power supply box ?

Easiest way is to trace the cable from the switch to the shower.

Use a proper voltage tester (NOT a neon screwdriver) or a multimeter.
The supply will be the cable with 230V on it when the switch is off
