Hi guys need some help on fitting fluorescent light in my garage

What sort of power cable will i need i reckon twin earth?

Can i connect it to a plug and plug it into wall mains when i want to use it

Also it it must be connected to a 5 amp lighting circit

Any guidance would be appreciated thanks

1.00mm t&e can be used from a FIXED supply i;e a fused connection unit with a 3a fuse or flex from a plug, again with a 3a fuse.

1mm² Twin & earth or flex suitable for 6A if hard wired.
Flex suitable for 6A if using a plug.

Yes. Use a 3A or 5A fuse.

Not necessarily.
It could be connected to a socket circuit via a Fused connection Unit with 3A or 5A fuse..

Many florescent units have a 3A fuse built into the lamp. So likely 15A is maximum so the standard 13A fuse in any plug or FCU is ample.

Cable size depends on size of fuse but there is no need to use twin and earth in fact because round cable better fits stuffing glands likely round is better.

The only thing against round cable is maintenance free connectors. Where push-in connectors are used flex can be a problem.

So mush depends on the florescent fitting you are using but all answers to date are valid.
