9000w Electic Cooker and Hob - 6mm Ok

Just a quickie to confirm really.

My electric cooker and hob will be at 9000w if every single thing is maxed out at the same time.

Ive bought 6mm for it, but just read that 10mm is correct.


6mm will be fine wont it??

i think 9000w is around 36 amps (ish)

As long as the MCB/fuse in the consumer unit is rated to protect the 6mm cable (depends how/where it is ran) then it will be safe. I don't think you would ever manage to trip a 32A MCB, even on Christmas day. Have a search on diversity.

If it's a new install and you want to future proof it for if you get a bigger cooker/oven/hob in the future then you could run 10mm in now while you can.

By the way, do you mean a cooker? (Combined oven and hob), or 2 separate appliances? (i.e. oven and hob.)

Does it not give you even the briefest pause for thought that you are embarking on a job like this, and have already bought cable, without already knowing enough for you to understand diversity calculations and to be able to make your own competent design decisions?

Or even without knowing basic electrical theory and not having the ability to do trivial arithmetic?
