Have you ever wondered where the tradition of putting a fairy on top of the Christmas tree came from.

Santa was having a bad year, a lot of his regular elves had gone long term sick and the replacements though OK couldn't keep pace with his schedule and he was well behind on his production figures.

He went to the stables where the reindeer lived and there wasn't much good news there either, two were lame and one about to give birth. "Great" thought Santa.

One of his elves came to him with the news that an order for 5,000 teddy bears had just been cancelled by Toys R Us (Sudanese branch). Santa lost the plot, "Anyone got any good news ?" he demanded. Silence from all within earshot. "Thought as much" grumped Santa "I'm going for a coffee".

Well Santa gets indoors and puts some coffee on and decides to have a shot of brandy with it to help improve his mood and goes to the top cupboard where he keeps it hidden and finds that the elves have beaten him to it and the bottle is empty "Little bas***s !" he snarled. He turns to pick up his coffee and manages to drop the mug onto the floor which breaks into a hundred pieces and spatters coffee on his new boots. "FFS can anything else go wrong today" he moaned.

At that moment there was a knock on the door, Santa opened it and there stood a fairy with a Christmas tree "Where shall I put this Santa ?" asked the fairy, unaware of Santa's mood. "Why don't you stick it up ............

And that children is how the fairy got to be on top of the tree.
