Hello everyone

I,m a new poster although regularly read the site.

Anyway,my question is:

I currently have a dedicated cooker point with with switch running from consumer unit which is red protected, from which runs cable to ignition for gas hob.
I am swapping gas for induction, can i connect 10mm cable from cooker switch and run approx 2m under floor boards up into an island, connect to FCU and from FCU to Hob.Would it have to be notified under part P?

Many thanks

Murray

The red switch I assume is your cooker isolation switch?
Under part p you must make sure what you do is designed and installed safely, this would require proving the work is safe by use of calibrated equipment and documenting your findings with either a minor works or electrical installation certificate.
The regulations since April 2013 now deem work within the kitchen as non-notifiable unless you are installing a new circuit or a new consumer unit.

Is there a reason for the use of 10mm2 cable from the isolator and what size cable is routed between consumer unit and isolator?
Also does this circuit have RCD protection? As there are requirements where cable is not surface mounted, that would require this protection.

Yes cooker has red isolation switch,so if existing cable to consumer unit is either 6mm or 10mm use the same,so it isn't a new circuit so does not need to be notified? yes everything is consumer unit is red protected.
Thanks for reply

Thanks
What should I connect 10mm cable to in island if found not good and no need for isolation switch not necessary
Thanks
Murray

You havent said why it has to go to the island. Is that where the hob will be? Is there another appliance (oven?) to be connected to this circuit. Or is it dedicated to the hob?

To the island because that is where induction hob will be, hopefully it's fine to connect oven and hob to one cooker point

Okay. So, more questions:

where is this oven to be located? In the island, or somewhere else?

What are the current loading requirements of the induction hob and the oven?

What is the cable size from the consumer unit, and the fuse size of the cooker circuit?

There questions I can only answer when I get home, but the oven is on opposite side of kitchen 2or3m away I think existing cooker cable 6mm
Thanks
