Hello all
I have just started work in my loft today, and so far i have fitted 2 flurecent lights and powered them up,also i cleaned the rubbish out of there and am looking for a loft ladder.
Our house was built 1910's and has no felt fitted. The slates inside seem to be very good we had lots of rain over the last few days and i cannot find any leaks, Also the timber looks in good shape too, No sign of condensation either.
My next plan is to board out the loft so that we can store the usual xmas decorations and usual junk that goes up there.
After reading some posts on this fine forum i have a few questions i hope someone can answer.
Our house is semi detached and the wall between us and next door in the loft has a gap at the top about 0.8m high, I do trust my neighbour if he ever moves out though someone can get through into my boys bedroom.
Is there something i can do to block this up? after i have layed the loft flooring can i brick it up on my side and if so what gap do i leave or is there another solution?
My insulation is about 100mm thick between joists, Can i run timber across the other way and lay more insulation 90 degrees to that and then lay my flooring i seen this on here somewhere it looks a practical solution is there much benefit from this
The wiring in the loft is just sitting over my joists so is the above solution the best way to overcome this or should i disconnect and re run the cables?
What sort of ventalation or gap would i need to leave with the floor to be fitted is there a formula for the size of my house or anything i read that this is the most important part of any loft work..
Thankyou for your time.
Cheers
Leigh
