Hi all,

I just signed up to this forum after looking for hours for a decent DIY community on Facebook, and failing miserably. Good old forums, eh?

I'm looking for lots of advice as I go along - I just bought my first house, and have never renovated before in my life, but my family and I have decided to do everything (apart from the rewiring and the boiler installation) ourselves. The whole process is utterly terrifying - so far we've had old valves prang open and flood our upstairs, and in the last three days I've taught myself to plaster well enough to fill in the channels that our electrician left. We still have to replumb as much as we can before the boiler man puts in our replacement system, and then there's the actual decorating...

So yes, I'll have a lot of questions over the next few weeks. Any and all advice welcome, and if I leave posts that sound like I'm a jibbering wreck, it's probably because I am. Nice to meet you all!

So happy sailing!

Excellent, thank you! I think I'd better start combing the forum's plastering section...
