I got this switch right and I got this socket right...it's for an outside light switch. This is the only switch that controls it.

I took off the old switch plate cos i wanted to put a new flat plate one on but I forgot which wires go where.

So there are two red wires, the black wire is on a block and the earth is wired into the mounting box.

Any ideas?

one red to com or L
the other to L1 or L2
Also the earth needs to be connected to the switch plate, so either cross connect using a CPC(earth wire) or undo earths on back box and fix to switch plate.

As above but next time make a note of how it's connected or take a photo before disconnecting!

You really can't get the hang of switches, can you?:

Is this because:

a) with all those wires and terminals they are fearsomely complicated things to understand

or

b) you simply are not cut out to do electrical work

?

I vote (b).
