Not clear at all Anobium. You said "WE should let them have their independence" followed by "the decision on independence should be left to the Scottish voters". I am not being argumentative, but it would appear from what you say, that the independence decision by the Scottish voters is itself dependent on the permission of the English people to have that vote.
Firstly wouldn't the referendum on Scottish independence have to be approved by parliament, not just english voters.?
Only then would the Scottish electorate be able to vote on the matter.
If they went ahead on their own without the approval of parliament,and the vote was in favour, that surely would be classed as a revolution or some other term which I forget
The upshot of that could lead to a civil war !

I have many friends north of the border and I am a great admirer of many of the Scottish systems, particularly education and the legal systems.
