Hello.

In June I will be moving back into the family home and would like to build a wooden shed/office/living room in the garden to use as my own and keep my things in it will thus need to be well insulated and properly water tight. Ideally I would like electricity in it as well.

The garden is large and the neighbours friendly so I don't think getting their permission will be a problem.

I have never attempted a project like this and was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to get started or indeed if they know anywhere I could get a step by step guide. I could buy a kit and have someone put it up for me but I'd really like to do it myself.

Thanks

firstly you wont need your neighbours permission... assuming you are looking at a shed under 30m2 and its less than 50% of ur garden.

I was going to build one a while back but after looking at these guys

http://www.shedstore.co.uk

I decided it would be cheaper and easier to build a kit one. They have loads of different specs and a reasonably priced.

They delivered mine for free and even carried all the pieces into the garden for us even though it stated kerb side delivery. I think the misses must make good tea or something

As for a base I have use slabs leveled on dry mix at various points where the supports are required under the base. Concrete in my mind was a bit expensive to put a shed on. I have also seen someone use concrete fence posts bedded in on dry mix. It all depends on your budget.

You could then get a sparks in to power it up. and then use celotex or similar and clad it in ply or something like that inside.

I havent clad or insulated mine as I mainly use it for storing stuff now and dont sit down there in the cold.

If you need power run to it technically you'd need building control approval i think? But check that as i'm not at all sure
