Cistern means a toilet fed from a water tank in the roof.
Shame you took all the pipe work apart and the old ball valve out. All you needed to do was take the split pin out, unscrew the end of the ball valve, take the piston out, unscrew the end of the piston, replace the washer and put it back together.
Told him that in an earlier thread!
The old pipes were not totally destroyed. It was just detached from the mains water pipe in order to take out the old ballcock. It can be put back with a compression fitting to the tank and mains pipe any time, and in fact they are now back into the mains pipe working as before.
I looked closely into the old ballcock. There were lots of dirt and grimes in it. I cleaned it up. And put it back to the water tank and the old pipes.
It still leaks the water when the float was raised by the water level. It seems the washer or jet inside of the ballcock is definitely needing replacement.
The plumbers washer kit has arrived from Amazon, but there was nothing which looks like will fit and do the job for the old ballcock.
Where do they stock the parts? I am going to try getting the new parts and try them with the old ballcock, before the new ballcock arrives (seems will take a few days for arrival). The old ballcock can be now easily taken out and put back again due to the 50+ years of lock frozen bolt and nut are now freed and easy to turn for tightening and loosening.
If the old ballcock works ok with the new parts, it will be left to do the work, returning the new ballcock for refund. If it doesn't, then new one will be fitted. This is the plan.
