Above the bathroom window

Good evening,

I have just tried installing a roller blind in my in laws bathroom. I have tried drilling the screws to hold the mounting brackets vertically upwards in the window recess. However I cannot drill more than 1cm into whatever is above the window frame. Has anyone got any ideas what it is ?

The house is a 3 bed semi from the early 60s.

Most likely a reinforced concrete lintel, Could be a steel one though.

As Gazman says it's most likely a reinforced concrete lintel. What kind of drill were you using? From my experience a bog standard drill even with hammer action is tough going if trying to drill into a lintel.

An SDS style drill will make the going easier
