Wanting to replace an Accenta 8 Alarm. Got a few quotes - a couple saying Orisec CP20 and an other saying Pyronix 76. Both about the same price. Any thoughts on which is the best way to go. Using the existing PIRs and Door sensors. I prefer if possible to use an App to be able to control if away from the house but do not want to pay a subscription. The other thought it to buy a Taxecom Elite and try to install myself....would that be a big mistake. Any help or thoughts welcome.

if you want to be able to buy parts yourself then Pyronix as in the UK Orisec is installers only.

Orisec currently don't charge for the app but Pyronix do.

Lots of people install Texecom/Pyronix themselves to be fair. Some companies do pre configured options.

The Accenta 8 is a hard wired panel and everything is normally closed, wiring wise an Elite 24 would be very similar, in that 2 terminals per zone and a global tamper circuit.

Don't know what you have connected to the accenta.

So CP 20 comes in various forms and its baby brother the CP10 comes in similar options, the CP10 doesn't do coms so no app the CP20 does.

so end station plus keypad (lots of options)
end station with built in LCD keypad
end stations with built in touch screen keypad

I do not mind paying for someone to install it or come out if there is a problem but I really do not fancy paying on going subscription for an app and also do not want to be stuck with a yearly service etc. Presently we have 4 wired PIRs, 2 door sensors, a separate keypad near the front door. We also have a siren on the outside and then a internal chime just under the alarm panel. No wireless. Ideally I just want the same system but it would be useful to know if the alarm has gone off if we are away from the house and can stop it and put it back on.

in terms of insurance then don't tell the insurance company you have an alarm as its bells only and self maintained.

insurance companies can be very general or very specific as to what you must have and chances are you wont save much if anything on insurance quotes in your case

some companies wont be over keen, but reality is the min panel battery will need to be replaced every 3-5 years and it should be tested at a service to check it is likely to be okay for another 12 months although modern panels will tell you when its getting very low. How long they actually last varies.

no wireless means you dont have wireless signal or batteries to worry about.

as for how you want to be notified, apps are okay, but relay on the coms board fitted, so WIFI or GPRS seem to be the boards available for pyronix.
Dont see a phone call or sms message available. the app does require a subscription as would the gprs connection.

Texecom, again is a similar situation. No charge currently to use app, unless on 4G.

Orisec there's a bit more flexibility but options depend on the panel, in terms of coms and what those coms can do currently no charge for the app, you can use your own sim card so you have a little more flexibility on whats paid potentially

I would be surprised if an installer will give you all the options available so you need to make it clear what you want and you can view all the manufactures sites and read up on what things can do.

Cant comment on prices you have been offered as dont know what you have been offered.

For example Orisec have numerous keypads and several different variants of the CP20.

Texecom have various keypads, Pryonix from memory have a few less options on what keypads are available.

All the panels should be able to accept existing sensors and bellbox and the speaker if 16 ohms, don't know the condition of what you have but would guess its dated but maybe functional, but in some homes this gear still looks brand new and in other can look like its had a rough life.

Just a quick follow on from Secureiam's superbly explained reply.
If deciding on Texecom, I'd recommend using the 48 panel, this has the option for 4 wire zone connections, meaning instead of a global tamper-where all the the tampers are connected in series-each zone has its own tamper connection.
If you ever have a tamper fault, it will give the exact zone involved, with a global tamper you'd have to start breaking the fault down, using a multimeter etc, to identify which circuit has an issue.
Obviously the 48 is a tad overkill as far as zones go, but for the extra pennies it can prove useful if/when faults manifest themselves.

People are quoting approx £500 for new panel / keypad and app module for fitting. They all appear to be offering just one manufacturer. I would ideally like to choose the manufacturer myself, but I guess that's not really an option. That is why I was pondering buying it myself and trying to fit it. But the programming and getting all the wires in the correct place could be a struggle.

£500 for a new panel means nothing without knowing the specifics of what your being offered.

for example a CP20 has various options, there are about 40 keypad options.

the coms modules if fitted vary in price depending on what option has been selected.

cheapest on the orisec panel is a CM2-wifi, this can be reprogramed by the user easily if wifi is changed same with the pyronix, the Texecom is more of a ball ache to change the wifi and the module is a lot more expansive to buy

To be fair panel keypad panel battery sounds about right with wifi module and not the gsm or Ethernet one but don’t know if that’s a rkp400 or a 1250 basic to top of the Orisec line

You can send me the quotes via email if you want and can see if we think it’s a decent deal in terms of what your being offered

Thanks so so much. I am waiting for some people to get back to me. If anybody know a good reliable fitter in the Leeds area that would be great. Just want to make sure we get the right choice.

You have a few options, you can buy and install yourself, buy a preconfigured system, or get an installer in.

Lots of people come here to get advice, but you have to know some basics to be able to get things moving smoothly.

you need a minimum of 6 hardwired zones going back to the alarm panel, some accenta/ optimas had keypads that could take a door contact zone, but cant remember the model and don't think that applies to yours.

I don't know anyone specifically that covers that area, whilst we can I don't think it be cost effective for us to install it for you.
