Hi,

I'm looking into getting some loft work done (adding additional velux windows to an existing conversion)

The yellow pages are full of 'loft conversion' companies. Does anyone know what kind of accreditation I should look for to seperate the wheat from the chaff? I've seen a few mention the 'Federation of Master Builders'.

Thanks
Ginster

Try to get a recommendation from someone you know who has had similar work done, that's the BEST accreditation I know!

Perhaps if you could get in touch with a local building inspector, they may be able to tell you which ones they reckon do the best job... can't hurt to ask.

Cue rants against inspectors! ;)

Dragonrider is spot on here. If none of your friends can help, drive around the area and look at other peoples houses (from the road) when you see really good work knock and ask who did it. As long as you go at a sensible time in a pleasant manner most people are helpful. Most home owners are very proud of a nice job and are willing to talk about it. Most went through your problem. I am not suggesting you go in the house and you must leave if they are not interested.
