hi ... i have an acer aspire laptop and have recently had a new hard drive fitted. the laptop worked fine for 4 weeks then one day i closed the lid after use and opened it up again after about 1 hour and the screen was black, and the keyboard did not work. the fan kicks in and the dvd player kicks in but does not work. i have had it back to my repairer and after having a look at it they say they are not equiped to deal with the problem and have given me a number to contact a laptop specialist. the laptop is about 4 years old and i don't want to spend money on repairs that may not last. anyone any ideas as to what i can try and can anyone recomend a reliable laptop
cheers

this might work??
Unplug the power, remove the battery and then hold the power button for 30 to 60 seconds. Then reattach the power and attempt a boot.Just shutdown, put the battery back in you're good to go.

if it still doesnt work it could then be the backlight,if you look really carefully at the screen at different angles you should see the start up screen,if you can then its the light.you will have to do a search on the net on info on how to change it,it is a fiddly job to do.i had to do this on my old lappy.

Shine a powerful torch on the screen. If it's the backlight, you'll see the image.

Backlight and panel are relatively easy fixes.

Plug in an external monitor (or TV screen with the right input).

Tell you straight away if it is a problem with the display or something else.

In my own experience - I sold a bunch of top spec ones in the past, Acers build quality is poor, that's why they are a bit cheaper than most, I'd never buy one (again) myself.

I tend to buy a laptop on the premise that it will last for around 3 years then need replacing. Toshiba / Lenova / HP / Dell, all reasonable makes. Sony are selling there viao division, you have to remember there isn't high margins in selling computers / Laptops, they don't make anything to last too long.

Usually works, but depends upon certain assumptions which do not always hold.
