Adding a pir sensor

I have an ADE / optima alarm system. I want to connect a new pir sensor to it. Is it possible to connect a new pir to an existing zone? Or do I need to use a new zone?

If I use a new zone, does it has to be activated or do they be live by default and would just work once a pir is connected to it?
