REPLACING A PIR

Hello folks. I have an Optima xm6 alarm system and may have to replace one of the PIR sensors. Could anyone tell me if I can change the sensor without setting off the bell box. Is this possible? What would be the modern day make of sensor to replace the existing one? Someone told me to link out the pir zone but I am not sure what they mean by "linking out". Is "linking out" a zone on the board to do with the small metal connectors (of which there are several) in the control panel? Thank you for your help.

firstly most PIRs that are hard wired grade 2 will work, using normally closed or double pole wiring.

use engineers code if you have it.

dont know how they are wired up.

some are wired up for the zones only and some are wired to use the global tamper circuit the later will activate the alarm internally at least.

you may want to temporary remove power to the PIRS at the panel just in case you accidentally short the wires and blow a the auxiliary power fuse

If you put the panel into engineer mode, then you can open the panel without setting off the sounder. This is from The XL6 but the XM6 should be the same. It has been quite some time since I last did anything with one. Give it a go!
