Is it possible to install a radiator in to detached small office about 8 metres from the house(where boiler is) by connecting up central heating pipes via flow and return and routing them underground to a detached office?

If the boiler is located in the office building then anything can be connected to it.

It would be normal to connect it with its own circuit and seperate thermostat and controls.

Possible but a fan heater is much cheaper than going underground with
pipes.
Alternatively buy yourself a nice air con unit 3.5 kW. Heating in the winter
cooling in the summer.

It's a combi that is installed inside the domestic property and the small office building is detached from this by about 8 metres.

Then theoretically, yes it can be done, but I do believe there are better options. Fan heater, air con etc.

So in theory then what would be the best depth for pipes to be buried?
I would guess at least 750mm?
What pipe material would be best used for the underground bit?
and the diameter of pipe?

Yes.

But antifreeze is expensive so you'd want to keep the underground loop separate from the house system.

You'd use a heat exchanger in the house to pass heat to the external circulation system. Put a flow switch on the pipe in the house to send a call for heat to the boiler and operate the zone valve.

In the outbuilding put a pump and thermostat along with the radiator. The stat calls for heat by starting the pump, the water flow will activate the flow switch which will then activate the boiler.

This gives you boiler control without having to run external heating control cabling.

any possible links to the most suitable products regarding heat exchanger, flow switch, pump and thermostat?

Here are links to the late Andy Hall's original postings. (Ignore anything by IMM as he's the uk.d-i-y resident village idiot)

As the posts date from 2004 some suppliers may no longer be avaialble and Building Regulations have changed.

Cheers again OwainDIYer very much appreciated.
I will read through Andy Hall's post with interest.
May I wish you a Happy New year.
