Hi,

New poster here. I'm DIY renovating a holiday home in Transylvania.

I have a question about a floor I want to change a bit. Room is about 5m x 4.5m and it is spanned across the 4.5m width by 5 oaks beams being on average of about a 25cm x 25cm cross section. The span between beams is, on average, about 60cm. On top of this there are currently floorboards which I need to replace.

My question is whether I can put in some new joists between the existing beams to reduce the span and any deflection of the floorboards that'll sit on top of them. I'm thinking of putting in 150cm x 60cm joists which would also be blocked mid-span, and solid blocked at the ends too.

Does this seem like a reasonable plan?

Thanks,
Mike

If the clear distance beween the oak beams is 600mm, then 100x50s @400c/s would do.
