Adequate earth arrangement?

A friend has just moved into a new rented house. The supply incomer is on the wall in the hall. It's an old TN-S supply.

Is the additional earth clamped to the incoming supply sheath acceptable? I have a vague recollection of reading that it's not.

The other tiny earth is soldered/braised to the supply sheath - there are only 4 strands in that wire, not sure the CSA but it seems like it's less than 4mm^2.

No, it should by rights be a wound spring and braid kit, such as this:



The pipe clamp as used there risks point crushing to the cores inside. That doesn't mean to say it wasn't done by the DNO!
 
In some ways debatable.

That it doesn't meet modern standards is correct but as it is part of the DNO network it could be said that BS 7671 doesn't apply.

However as non of the increases in standards over the years have been retro active it could still be classed as compliant
 
Except for the paint. Yes I know in real terms one can see what each wire does and there is no danger but green/yellow wires should not be over sleeved with any other colour and the paint is over sleeving them with another colour.
