Please can anyone tell me what would be the best adhesive to use to stick slate to marine ply for external decoration?

Is the ply in situ,?there are better backgrounds to fix slate to.
nails? that's what they stick roof slates on with..
without knowing the context of the slate to plywood requirement it's hard to give a definitive answer..
