ADT fire alarm flashing red - help!

I would really like some help before I have to fork out for an engineer from ADT. My smoke alarm went off a few weeks ago while i was cooking, nothing was burnt so I assume this was from the heat, I wasn't able to switch it off easily so I took off the smoke alarm from the ceiling to see if i could take the batteries out. Since i put it back on, the smoke alarm is just flashing red and 'test' is imprinted on the alarm where the light is flashing

At the weekend the fire alarm went off randomly - i was just using the blender and not heating or cooking anything else in the kitchen. Not sure if it was a hot day and my house gets warm quickly so the heat triggered it or this was a fault with the alarm

I want to make sure the alarm doesn't keep going off but when I called ADT they said the engineer will charge if they find a tamper with the alarm and I don't particularly want to pay £114 for that

1) Is there a way to check whether the alarm was triggered due to heat/smoke on the panel? Would I need an engineers code for this ? If no heat or smoke was detected then I can call out the engineer as a fault with the alarm and not be charged

2) Can I do anything to make the alarm stop flashing red

3) Can I do something to reset the tamper switch so if an engineer does end up coming round I won't get charged for tampering with it.

Also just to add on the panel itself, it keeps asking me to bypass zones...

What sort of building is this alarm protecting ? Is it a single family home, a flat in a block of flats, a house of multiple occupancy or student bedsits ?

If anything other than a single family home then the alarm must be maintained by a qualified and authorised service provider

It is a single consumer unit for a terraced house. is a local alarm engineer a better option ?

Quite possibly - phone one and ask.

It sounds like the head/alarm may be faulty or dirty. You could try vacuuming it. Did you make a note of the type/model number when you took it down?

No I don't have the model number.I have the despatch note with the description of what I received if you are able to decipher it!

If the alarm has gone off two or three times would it need a remote reset?

I only had it installed a couple of months ago and to be honest I didn't really think/research it before I signed up!

Would I have to call out a fire alarm specialist or will a regular engineer do?

You've suggest your having an issue with your "ADT fire alarm".

Are sure you don't mean a "smoke detector".

Is it connected to an Intruder alarm system?

Is it wired or wireless?

If it was only installed recently surely your covered by warranty.

Post some photos of the equipment if possible
