this is my room (see images), i am starting to think about redecorating it/plastering etc

currently i have two simple pendant lights, both work off separate pullcord switches...

now i want to just have the one fitting but just wondering on where to put it, the problem is that in the middle-ish of the room there is a original victorian ceiling rose, (shown as circle over bed 900mm dia) which i dont really want to take down as it is an "original feature"

the ceiling is artexted at the moment, which im looking to plaster over!

any ideas on where i can situate the 1 lightfitting? and im also thinkgin on the type of light/fitting, would somthing like this work when hung off the rose? (http://www.lightingstyles.co.uk/Decorative_leaf_semi-flush_light.htm#)

Hi, To look right I think it really needs to be in the centre of the plaster rose, however looking at the light you have selected reminds me of one we had problems with several years ago - Not problems with the actual light fitting, but problems keeping it attached to an old crumbly ceiling !

What you have to watch out for is the weight of these things, 12v halogens like this have a transformer in the middle and one with multiple lamps like that it can be quite a big un!
Ours had very small restrictive fixing holes quite close together and each side of the cable entry hole, making it difficult to get a decent fixing with any screw/plug combination.

It might be worth having a look up in your attic to see if there are decent ceiling beams crossing the centre of the rose to fix into, you wouldn't want it to pull the rose down, or consider buying a Mains halogen fitting (240v bulbs - No transformer) these are much lighter and some designs have a large flat base plate that cam allow multiple fixings.

We eventually changed ours to a mains halogen which had a decent sized base-plate that allowed for four decent screw fixings, two of which are in a beam and two in plastic plugs - rock solid.

 Hope this helps !.
