advice on best way to solve damp issues like this

You really need to do better than that. Any heat in the space? Any ventilation, is it in a cupboard? Upstairs/downstairs?
sorry I was being a bit vague with my post - it is an external wall in a part brick, part upvc porch (with heating), also have same problem in bedroom - again external brick wall - wall is clear of any obstruction so not due to furniture being pushed close up against it etc
