Hi there,

I am having a running battle with my wife over the thermostat at the moment and wondered if someone could settle the dispute please.

The unit has low and high presets which I think mean:

1. once the high point has been reached, there is no point twiddling the dial further because it won't instruct the boiler to fire.

2. the low point is the 'target' that the thermostat will get to and then stop instructing the boiler to fire when the timer switches the heating system on each day

are my assumptions correct?

lastly, if I twiddle the the thermostat up to something above the low point before we go to bed, will the thermostat try and reach that the next day when the heating comes on or will the thermostat aim for the low preset?

thanks for all your help and advice.

regards,

Chris

Hi TCCHeating

Reading posts on here people say the british gas thermostat is in fact a Drayton Digistat. I've downloaded the guide for a Drayton Digistat 30002/RF601 and that looks and behaves exactly like ours.

thanks for your help

OK. That's basically just a thermostat with an adjustable setback temperature. (Setback temperature meaning the temperature you don't want your house to go below when you are not there or are in bed). Obviously the heating still needs to be on at the programmer for this to work.

Pressing the set button switches between normal 'adjustable temp' operation. And the setback temp (adjustable in the Settings menu I think)

So when you want the heating on, just use the thermostat in the normal mode and use the dial to adjust to the desired temp. If you are nipping out for a few hours. Then press the set button to change the thermostat to setback mode.

To be honest. The setback mode is a function that people rarely use. Normally they just use the thermostat in normal mode and control the heating with the programmer

Thanks TCC Heating. That explains a lot - I've been adjusting the temperature up and then pressing SET thinking it will somehow make the desired temperature 'stick' - instead its been knocking it back to the low pre-set.
