Hi all, first time on here. My oil boiler kicked the bucket today and I have been quoted £2400 to remove old one, install a new Firebird C20 and install ducting to take the excess fluids/steam to the drain. I can see that the boiler is around £1125 retail inc VAT - is this a reasonable quote for the work involved? I have no idea how to compare this. Many thanks.

Remember there will be cost for boiler, flue, timer/controls maybe, chemicals to clean system, all consumables needed.
It's not all profit, 20% to the taxman, and running a business is expensive, training, tools, vehicle, insurances, oftec registration fees etc, the list is endless.

I you're still unsure get another couple of quotes to compare. Without seeing the job we cannot really give accurate breakdown of cost

Without seeing the job it is impossible to say.

Guessing at 2 days work, additional materials and flue, seems OK.

But this not moneysupermarket.com

Thanks for the reply. He has quoted on a Firebird C20 condensing boiler, with a new flue for the steam along with new ducting to allow the excess waste (not sure if that is the right word) into our toilet drain pipe.

He is not VAT registered, but I do accept that he needs to make a profit. He has to pay for the equipment and bits.

Sorry I don't want to be misunderstood here - I fully accept he needs to make a profit on a job, and I do have a couple of other quotes coming tomorrow. I just wanted to see if my gut reaction of the quote being reasonable was correct.

I know training, expertise etc all form part of the quote and it is not parts and labour alone. This plumber came out as an emergency and so far I don't have any issues at all, I just wanted advice on what kind of ball park figure I should expect to pay.

Many thanks
