Advice on fitting a new front door with a shared frame

Im looking to have a UPVC or composite door fitted in the near future. The window next to it is anchored to the current frame. What's best practise here?
Fitting a smaller window and install a timber separator?

To look good I would replace the window same time as the door and frame
