Hi,

I would like to have a go at the improving insulation in 2 areas of our new house. I have no real DIY building experience and none of the examples I've read really match well to my situation.

1. We have a loft conversion which was done some time ago, it is poorly insulated and I would like to tackle the walls initially. The wall construction is visible from the remaining loft area and consists simply of plasterboard attached to studwork with some rockwool hung in the recesses and no outer skin at all. I am considering fully filling the recesses with thicker wool and then attaching 50mm Celotex board to form an outer side of the wall. Does this sound reasonable ? I don't know if I need any membranes etc ?

2. One half of a double garage has been converted into a sitting room with a solid brick wall separating them. On the garage side there is some spare room to add some insulation. I was considering placing some stud work against the wall and attaching Celotex boards but again I'm unsure if this is a reasonable approach. Many of the illustrations show the boards being on the inside of the wall but this would take too much out of the room.

Any thoughts or experiences would be appreciated !

Thanks,

Andy.
