Hi All,

I am looking to install a new oven in my property. My old oven was hard wired to the fusebox via a 30amp ring main but the new oven is filtted with a 13amp plug. Would it be safe/legal to fit a 30amp cooker socket to the wall and simply plug the new oven into this or are there any other steps/concerns to consider? see wiring diagram for details (not to scale!)

Thanks in advance

Yes, thanks I`ve changed to 13amp plug not 30. Thought it was a bit too easy to be true, so best to check these things.

You could do what you say. But wouldn’t it be easier to plug it in low down, away from the hot hob?

I think that the OP had in mind to fit a NEW “30amp cooker socket”

I’m expecting that the old cooker connects down below, like most of them do!

Its a single oven fitted unit, so no hob to contend with, thankfully. In a closed off cabinet so I just need to make sure the wiring is away from any hot areas.
