Hi all

As above I would like to use this space ( clad in 22 mm pine-boards ) for clothes storage but find myself unable to decide how to do so and my searches only land me up with companies realising much larger projects

Since I know many of you do this kind of thing professionally - albeit mostly on a larger scale - could you give me some tips on shelf sizes/how many/heights, how much hanging space ( for a couple ) etc. Any useful web-sites for something modest like this would also be welcome.

This will be the only storage in the bedroom.

Thanks in advance.

As quoted, look at what you want to hang, and then go from there. I've just planned out some built-in wardrobes and found that my expectations of what I'd like to do weren't really matched by what was practical. For hanging space you are going to need at around 1.3m of height (more for long coats/dresses) and 500mm of depth, you aren't going to want drawers much more than about 500mm deep. So, your depth at the moment is a bit impractical (1.3m).

I'd try to think creatively on the depth issue to see if you could design some kind of pull out section that opens up the wardrobe, but is also storage space - you would obviously need space in front of the cupboard in order to do this (ie you'd need a meter or so of free space). Otherwise you are going to have a lot of wasted depth.
